The Rising Cost of Motocross Theft

The Motocross community is fantastic. Whenever I get to speak to a Motocross enthusiast, I’m always astounded by how much they love their sport, and how much it means to them (and usually their young kids). That’s why it’s so heartbreaking when I hear stories from the same people, of how thousands of pounds worth of bikes were stolen from them, and they have no way at all to reclaim the money and goods that have been unfairly taken from them.
The prevalence of bike theft, and the seemingly high likelihood of it occurring, means that consumers are being quoted devastating premiums by insurers. I’ve heard stories of people paying more than their bikes value within a twelve month period. Once getting insurance becomes prohibitive, people turn to bolstering security in their outbuildings, sheds and garages.
I joined a few groups on Facebook that are dedicated to people posting their stolen motocross bikes in the hope that they might be spotted, and I have seen some seriously sophisticated security setups protecting bikes and equipment - CCTV, hardened padlocks, reinforced walls, electric fences, etc. All of these systems are great as prohibitive measures, however when it came down to protecting the bikes, it just made the life of the thief a little bit harder - but not hard enough not to steal the bikes.
We launched the Inferno Sentinel as the UK’s only plug and play intruder detection, alerting and deterrent system in the hope that we could help those in the Motocross community to keep their bikes safe. Unlike padlocks, CCTV and fences, the Sentinel actively disorientates and removes intruders from your premises, as well as letting you via Smartphone notifications when a break-in is in progress.
